Small rant from an art directer (me)... "I don't pay to play."..."I don't see a reason to spend money unless I know it will sell" ...Several artists have told me this about the hanging fee at the coffee shop I hang at. Could you imagine Ralph Lauren telling Time Square that he wants a 50 foot billboard, but will only pay them commission when the product sells, because he doesn't believe he should "pay to play".. ... Here's the thing. Showing your art is not a game. This is not a play. You are renting space in someone's shop/gallery in order to get your work shown. If you rented a booth at a festival or convention, they expect you to pay

I am finally starting n the Poseidon painting I've wanted to do for years. I'd put it off out of fear of not getting things JUST right. I decided it was time to just do it and work with what I can. So far, it looks amazing. Not sure why I doubted my ability for so long.

I am starting a series of paintings that will be an expression of my journey through and struggle with depression and anxiety disorder. I am hoping that through these paintings, I can express in color and image what I find difficult to put into words. This series will not be "happy, feel good" art. It will be my depression made visible.
